  • I like Belgian beer. There’s some brews from places in the West Coast, Britain or Germany that I enjoy, but I alway go back to Belgium. It’s probably my preference for darker heavier beers, which Belgium is particularly good at.

Among Belgian beers, I particularly enjoy Leffe Brune, which is hard to come by. Almost everyone stocks Leffe blonde, but not the brune. At Antwerp not only do they have it, but they have it on tap! How awesome is that! I immediately started my meal with a pint (1,000 yen).

I’m fairly predictable at a Belgian beer pub. I’ll order a dark brew, and then I’ll get mussels with fries. I’ve found that the mussels are good almost anywhere in Tokyo, and so were Antwerp’s (1,600 yen for half a pot provencale style). Where they stood out was in the fries department (600 yen). These are probably some of the best fries I’ve had; fat, crunchy on the outside and soft inside.

I moved later to a pint of Hoegarden (900 yen), because it was so hot that I needed a lighter beer.

Definitely drop by for after-work beers. Excellent choice in Akasaka. And get the brune, trust me.
